Charles Stamps is the visionary founder, Chairman, and CEO of the MLK Grande Parade in Houston, Texas—one of the largest and most prestigious multi-cultural events in the United States dedicated to honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Driven by a deep commitment to civil rights and community empowerment, Charles established the parade to serve as a vibrant, living memorial to Dr. King's dream. Beyond the signature parade, his leadership extends to the MLK Unity Parade and the annual MLK Awards Gala, which honors trailblazers who continue to advance the cause of equality and social justice.

Parade Route Turn-by-Turn
• STEP-OFF: Corner of Smith St & Lamar St (facing City Hall Hermann Square).
• Proceed North on Smith St to Walker St.
• Turn East on Walker St to Milam St.
• Turn South on Milam St through downtown business district to Pease St.
• Turn West on Pease St to Louisiana St.
• Turn North on Louisiana St to Clay St.
• Turn West on Clay St to Smith St.
• Proceed North on Smith St past primary Reviewing Stand to Lamar St conclusion.
Reviewing Stands & Dignitary Bleachers
The primary television broadcast and dignitary reviewing stand is located on Smith St at Hermann Square (City Hall). Reserved bleacher passes are provided for parade sponsors and honored city delegates.
Spectator Information & Rest Areas
Designated public rest areas, family comfort points, and volunteer information stations are located along prime route corridors:
• Station 1: City Hall & Hermann Sq (901 Bagby St)
• Station 2: Lamar St & Louisiana St (Turn Concourse)
• Station 3: Travis St & Walker St (Metro District)
• Station 4: Bagby St & McKinney St (Staging Area)
Staging & Disband Corridors
• Staging: Bagby St (McKinney to Dallas) and inbound Allen Parkway.
• Disbanding: Outbound Allen Parkway toward Taft and Shepherd Dr.
• Floats and bands must be positioned between 6:30 AM and 8:30 AM.
Downtown Road Closures Enacted
Houston Police Department seals parade perimeter along Smith, Milam, Louisiana, and Bagby.
Bands & Participant Check-In
Floats, marching units, and equestrian entries line up at Bagby & Allen Parkway staging corridors.
Spectator Hospitality Stations Open
Complimentary coffee, hot cocoa, and family welcoming stations activate at 4 downtown route locations.

• Green Line: Exit at Theater District Station (1 block from Travis & Walker rest stop).

• Heritage Plaza Garage: 1111 Bagby St.
Strict Street Closure Schedule
• 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM: Smith St (between Texas & Dallas closed).
• 7:00 AM – 1:30 PM: Milam, Louisiana, Pease, and Clay within the parade loop.
• Tow-Away Warning: Vehicles parked along the parade route after 5:00 AM will be towed at the owner's expense.
Wheelchair Accessible Viewing
A dedicated, barrier-free ADA viewing platform is located at Hermann Square (901 Bagby St) directly facing City Hall. Accessible ramps, flat paved surfaces, and accessible restrooms are provided.
ASL Interpretation & Paratransit Drop-Off
• ASL Interpreters: Certified sign language interpreters will be stationed on the primary reviewing stand during dignitary addresses.
• Paratransit Drop-Off: METROLift and passenger paratransit drop-off is located at Walker & Brazos St.
Spectator Safety & Parade Guidelines
Houston Police Department and Houston Fire Department protocols to ensure a safe, celebratory morning for all families.
